Michelle Kwan Has Signed Wayne Gretzky Stick Stolen In Car Theft

michelle kwan wayne gretzkyLast week was not the best of times for Michelle Kwan.

First, the former world-champion figure skater had her Toyota Prius stolen last Wednesday from right outside her Providence home.

According to a police report obtained by The Providence Journal, Kwan’s husband, Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate Clay Pell, left the keys in the unlocked car after they fell between two seats and out of his reach.

That’s usually enough to ruin anyone’s day, but Kwan revealed Tuesday that one of the items in the car at the time of the theft was a hockey stick signed by “The Great One” himself, Wayne Gretzky.

Les Dunbar of YourSportsMemorabiliaStore.com told the Journal that the stolen stick, which the couple did not report to police, could be worth anywhere from $800 (for an autographed but not game-used one) to $10,000 (if it happened to be one Gretzky used in the Olympics).

The stolen vehicle has since inspired its own parody Twitter account, which Kwan and Pell probably do not find particularly funny.
