The deal is expected to be worth approximately $144.5 million, Yahoo’s Tim Brown reports, citing a source.

The extension buys out Trout’s three arbitration years — the 22-year-old would be eligible for arbitration for the first time in his career after the 2014 season — and his first three years of free agency. Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports there is a seventh-year option.

The news comes on the heels of Miguel Cabrera’s record-breaking eight-year, $248 million extension with the Detroit Tigers that was also announced on Friday. Trout was runner-up to Cabrera for American League MVP in each of his first two full seasons in the majors. In those two years, Trout batted .324 with 57 home runs, 180 RBI and 82 steals in 296 games.
