The Pittsburgh Penguins could be without Evegeni Malkin for the rest of the regular season after the forward suffered a foot injury in Monday night’s loss to the St. Louis Blues.

Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said Malkin was injured during his first shift against the Blues while playing near the net. Malkin played the rest of the game, but he didn’t practice Tuesday morning, according to ESPN.com.
Malkin is seventh in the NHL with 72 points. He had been on a hot streak before his injury, scoring four goals in the last three games.
Bylsma said Malkin won’t need surgery and will be ready to return when the Stanley Cup playoffs start April 16.
The Penguins hold the second spot in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, seven points behind the Boston Bruins, entering Tuesday’s games.
