Jason Fuchs of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League experienced a scare during Saturday’s game when he lost the tip of his left pinky finger while blocking a shot.
Fuchs took a slap shot from the point right to his hand and immediately ripped off his glove in pain. The 18-year-old then raced to the bench once he realized what had happened — while play continued — and promptly was tended to by the team’s medical staff.
“He shouted. No one knew what to do,” Rouyn-Noranda coach Gilles Bouchard told TVA Sports after the game, via CBSSports.com. “We were looking for pieces of his finger.”
The team didn’t have to search far, though, as the pieces were still in Fuchs’ glove. He was rushed to the hospital, and the finger was stitched up. The Swiss prospect even rejoined his team for the trip home to Rouyn-Noranda.
