With the New York Jets’ acquisition of Michael Vick last Friday, Mark Sanchez is now a quarterback without a team.
Sanchez is not exactly a hot commodity in free agency after playing zero regular-season snaps in 2013, but the St. Louis Rams have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for the former Jet.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher told USA Today on Sunday that he is interested in possibly bringing in Sanchez, likely as a backup to starter Sam Bradford.
“I’d say that there is interest. I can’t say how much. But there certainly would be interest,” Fisher said. “I don’t have a backup with experience on the roster right now.”
Landing another starting job in the NFL is probably a pipe dream for Sanchez at this point, but backing up Bradford wouldn’t be the worst gig in the world. Bradford, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2010, has yet to develop into an elite or even Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback, and injuries limited him to 10 games in 2011 and seven last season.
Bradford was efficient in the games he did play last year, though, completing 60.7 percent of his passes for 1,687 yards with 13 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
