Brooklyn Nets v Denver NuggetsJason Collins is set to become the second openly gay player to sign an NBA contract.

He’s already the first, of course, having inked a 10-day contract with the Brooklyn Nets on Feb. 23 to become the first active openly gay male professional athlete in a major North American sport. He’s contributed to three Nets wins so far, and could be in line to help them win a few more.

The Nets will sign Collins to a second 10-day pact, Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports. This is the final 10-day deal the Nets can give Collins this season, meaning they will have to sign him through the end of the season if they wish to keep him at the end of the next 10 days.

Collins, 35, has averaged roughly eight minutes per game with the Nets, who are 3-1 with Collins on the roster. He has scored one basket and one free throw, as well as committed 10 fouls, in those four games.
