The Patriots are hosting Shelley Smith on a free-agent visit Thursday, NJ.com’s Jordan Raanan reports. Smith was a reserve guard for the Rams in 2013, starting two games at right guard. He started six games for the Houston Texans in 2012.

Smith was a sixth-round pick out of Colorado State in 2010. Pro Football Focus graded Smith positively as a run blocker in 2013.

Patriots starting center Ryan Wendell is a free agent this offseason. Right guard Dan Connolly has the versatility to move to center.
