The Tim Thomas-Roberto Luongo reality show is over before it began.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported shortly before Wednesday afternoon’s NHL trade deadline that Thomas has been traded from the Florida Panthers to the Dallas Stars, where he will reunite with former Boston Bruins teammates Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley.
The Panthers will receive goaltender Dan Ellis in return, CBC’s Kevin Weekes reports.
Thomas managed to win the Panthers’ starting job this season, but he has posted below-average numbers, going 16-20-3 with a 2.87 goals against average and .909 save percentage. If McKenzie’s report proves correct, Thomas’ final game with Florida will have been against the Bruins, who beat the 39-year-old for three goals in a 4-1 win Tuesday night.
The trade comes one day after the Panthers acquired Luongo — Thomas’ counterpart in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final — from the Vancouver Canucks. Luongo spent five seasons with Florida earlier in his career, and he responded to McKenzie’s report via his always colorful Twitter account.
