Vince Wilfork is prepared to move on from the New England Patriots.
Wilfork cleaned out his locker at Gillette Stadium after the Patriots approached him about restructuring his contract, the Boston Herald’s Karen Guregian reported Monday. Wilfork angrily “ripped his nameplate off his locker stall” after discussions with the Patriots went poorly.
Patriots owner Robert Kraft was hopeful Monday at the NFL annual meeting that Wilfork could return to New England. Wilfork is owed a $7.5 million base salary in 2014 — the last season of the five-year, $40 million contract he signed in 2010. The Patriots could save almost $8 million in salary-cap space by releasing or restructuring Wilfork’s contract.
