San Diego Padres Ball Girl Saves Dodgers Fan With Highlight-Reel Catch (Video)

Sunday’s Opening Night matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres at Petco Park already has given us an amazing highlight reel play. Just not from who you’d expect.

A Padres ball girl made the best play of the young season when she leaped to snare a line drive that appeared to be making a bee-line toward a Dodgers fan in the second row of the right field stands.

The ball girl managed to play it cool following her amazing snag, as she calmly handed the ball to a young fan in the first row. ESPN’s cameras finally caught the hero of the night cracking a smile, though, after she received a round of applause from the surrounding crowd.

While the Dodgers fan has the Padres ball girl to thank for leaving the park with his head intact, he likely wasn’t happy with the result on the field. The Padres roughed up Dodgers reliever Brian Wilson for three runs in the eighth inning to earn a 3-1 victory.
