Jason AvantThe New England Patriots are keeping their options open at wide receiver in free agency.

The Patriots have expressed interest in signing free-agent receiver Jason Avant, according to a source. A signing is not imminent, however, and the Patriots have not planned to host Avant on a free-agent visit.

Avant has spent his entire career with the Philadelphia Eagles since being selected in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL draft. He had 38 receptions for 447 yards with two touchdowns in 2013.

Avant mostly has lined up in the slot during his NFL career. He spent 77.7 percent of his passing snaps in that role, according to Pro Football Focus.

Avant was released by the Eagles last week.
