The Boston Bruins won their seventh straight game Thursday night, and the best player on the ice was the guy in net.
Tuukka Rask finished with just 21 saves in the 2-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes, but a sizable number of them were of the highlight-reel variety.
Two stood out in particular, the first of which came late in the first period.
Coyotes winger Brandon McMillan unleashed a wrist shot from the top of the right circle that bounced off Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton and trickled toward the goal line. Rask initially was fooled by the deflection, but he was able to reach his stick back and paddle the puck away with inches to spare.
His next save came at a more critical juncture, with Phoenix furiously trying to tie the game in the final minutes of the third period. Antoine Vermette had an open look just to the right of the crease, but Rask sprawled back across the goalmouth to — with the help of a well-placed stick from Carl Soderberg — redirect the puck into the post and safely away.
