Wichita State’s early exit from the NCAA tournament might have been disappointing, but the prank that the Minnesota Twins pulled on Shockers alum Mike Pelfrey was anything but.

Before the No. 1 Shockers were bounced from the tourney by Kentucky, Glen Perkins and manager Ron Gardenhire decided to have a little bit of fun with their big right-handed pitcher. Gardenhire called Pelfrey into his office and told him he would be delivering an on-the-spot motivational speech over the phone to the Shockers squad.

What Pelfrey didn’t know was that he was really talking to his Twins teammates who were in the room next door listening — and stifling their laughs — on the other line.

The starting pitcher clearly lets his actions do the talking for him on the diamond because it became pretty obvious early on in his pump-up attempt that he’s no Ray Lewis. He deserves an A for effort, though, and the Twins earn an A+ for their flawless execution of the prank.
