The Oscar for Best Picture will be presented at Sunday’s 86th annual Academy Awards, but in the meantime, let’s take a look at some actual photographs that defined Boston sports in the last year.
In arguably the most stunning comeback Tom Brady orchestrated all season, the Patriots quarterback connected with Kenbrell Thompkins with only five seconds remaining against the New Orleans Saints to win 30-27. Brady choreographed an eight-play, 70-yard drive with less than two minutes to play, capping it off with a game-winning 17-yard touchdown that shocked the Saints.

Speaking of miraculous comebacks, Patrice Bergeron was downright heroic in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Bruins forward netted the game-tying goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation and scored the game-winner in overtime, advancing the Bruins to the second round and sending a stunned group of Leafs home.

Torii Hunter’s Fenway flip earned a place in Red Sox lore this season, as well. David Ortiz’s blast to right field sent Hunter flying over the bullpen wall, head over heels, as now-famous bullpen cop Steve Horgan lifted his arms emphatically to celebrate the game-tying grand slam.
Finally, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce’s departure from Boston marked the end of an era for the Celtics. Pierce played his first 15 seasons with the Celts, becoming No. 2 on the franchise’s all-time scoring list, while Garnett played six seasons in Boston and helped capture the team’s 2008 championship. The two were dealt to the Brooklyn Nets in the offseason, but the last time they walked off the TD Garden court as Boston Celtics left a lasting image for fans.
