The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots have made major moves this past week, adding key pieces to gear up for a Super Bowl run next season, but which team is having the better offseason?
The Broncos have dished out big bucks to acquire high-priced talent to shore up their defense. In the first 24 hours of free agency, Denver committed $110 million, including $60 million guaranteed, to defensive end DeMarcus Ware (three years, $30 million, with $20 million guaranteed), cornerback Aqib Talib (six years, $57 million, with $26 million guaranteed) and safety T.J. Ward (four years, $23 million with $14 million guaranteed).
The Patriots were quiet in the first couple days of free agency, but it didn’t take long for them to respond to their AFC rival’s moves in a huge way. Although the Broncos snagged Talib from New England, Bill Belichick and Co. went out and got an upgrade at the position, agreeing to a contract with elite cornerback Darrelle Revis. The Patriots also added cornerback Brandon Browner, and on the other side of the ball, they reached an agreement with Julian Edelman, who led the team in catches, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and targets last season.
