2014 NBA Draft Questions: Does Andrew Wiggins Have Fire To Be Superstar?

Andrew Wiggins, Joel EmbiidThis might be the best NBA draft class in years — which, admittedly, isn’t saying much — but it still is not without its question marks.

Kansas’ Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid and Duke’s Jabari Parker each spent time as the supposed surefire No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA draft. At some point, one criticism or another knocked them from their lofty perches. Even Kentucky’s Julius Randle got his moment in the sun.

But Wiggins’ tendency to disappear in big moments, Embiid’s bad back and Parker’s lack of commitment on defense have raised doubts about each player’s worthiness of the top slot. Even outside the top three, there is no shortage of uncertainty, with a few incoming players pegged anywhere from fifth to 25th based on how different scouts feel about the players’ separate shortcomings and skills.

Somebody will go No. 1 on June 26, but whoever it is will not be a no-risk pick. Even a strong class of prospects cannot change the reality that when it comes to the draft, there are no sure things.
