1397523970_macierToronto Blue Jays infielder Maicer Izturis likely will be sidelined four to six months after falling down the dugout steps in Baltimore before Sunday’s game against the Orioles, the Blue Jays announced Monday.

The 33-year-old told reporters after the game that he heard a loud “pop,” and he was placed on the 15-day disabled list. Izturis’ worst fears were realized when an MRI revealed that he had suffered a complete tear of his knee’s lateral collateral ligament.

Izturis will seek a second opinion before surgery, the team announced, but it is likely that he will miss the rest of the season.

Before going down, Izturis was off to a hot start to the season, hitting .286 in 11 games with a .324 on-base percentage.
