They came to Boylston Street in droves on Saturday, some as early as 6 a.m.

Their mission? To participate in a “Sports Illustrated” cover shoot as part of the magazine’s commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing with an inspiring “Boston Strong” photograph.

The results were overwhelmingly positive, as more than 3,000 people showed up at the site of last year’s attack to take part in the photo. Check out the final product of the magazine, which hit newsstands Wednesday.

As seen in the cover above, thousands of people flooded Boylston Street from sidewalk to sidewalk at the site of the official finish line, located near the intersection of Bolyston and Dartmouth Street.

The photo shoot attracted Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and police commissioner William Evans, along with hundreds of others who were affected in last year’s attack.
