Bruins Send Ryan Spooner To Providence, Sign Prospect Brian Ferlin

Carl Soderberg, Patrice Bergeron, Ryan Spooner,The Boston Bruins assigned forward Ryan Spooner to Providence of the AHL on Friday, just two days after the team recalled the forward on an emergency basis, general manager Peter Chiarelli announced.

Spooner took Patrice Bergeron’s place centering the second line in Thursday night’s shootout loss to Winnipeg, playing 14:18 against the Jets with one shot on goal.

Spooner has 11 assists in 23 games with Boston this season. With the Providence Bruins, the 21-year-old has 11 goals and 34 assists in 45 games.

The Bruins made another move Friday, signing forward Brian Ferlin to an entry-level contract. Ferlin led Cornell University in goals (13) and points (27) this season, appearing in 32 games for the Big Red.

Before joining Cornell, the 6-foot-2, 209-pound forward played with the USHL’s Indiana Ice for two seasons (2009-11). Ferlin racked up 31 goals and 58 assists for 89 points in 112 total games with the Ice.

The Bruins drafted Ferlin in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL draft.
