Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs isn’t interested in buying the Buffalo Bills, at least not with the way things are right now.
Jacobs, a Buffalo native, has been rumored to have interest in purchasing his hometown’s NFL team. However, NFL rules state that owners cannot own other professional sports franchises in other cities. Therefore, in order to potentially purchase the Bills, Jacobs would have to sell the Boston Bruins, whom he has owned since 1975. That’s not happening, according to Bruins president Cam Neely.
Neely said Thursday on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger and Massarotti” that he has spoken with Jacobs and been assured the Bruins won’t be sold so he can pursue the Bills.
“He has no interest in getting out of hockey,” Neely said of Jacobs. “He’s been extremely happy with his ownership here in Boston and he’s enjoying how the team is playing. He told me that he has no interest right now, or doesn’t have any interest at all to give up the Boston Bruins.”
Jacobs and the Bruins are enjoying success like they never have before in the nearly 40 years he and his family have owned the franchise. They continue to benefit from winning the Stanley Cup in 2011 and returning to the Cup Final last spring, and they’re poised for another deep playoff run this season.
“He really enjoys owning the Boston Bruins. I can tell you that that’s what he told me,” Neely added. “He really enjoys owning the Boston Bruins, he enjoys his role with the National Hockey League, and I think he’s very passionate about this organization.”
