The Montreal Canadiens became the first team to reach the second round of the 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs with a 4-3 victory Tuesday night to cap an impressive sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

After losing a 3-1 lead in the third period, the Canadiens were fortunate to avoid a penalty with two minutes left in regulation when Rene Bourque was not called for goalie interference on what was a questionable decision by the referees. Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty scored a little over a minute later to seal the win.

Montreal will face the winner of the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings series in Round 2. The Canadiens’ sweep is their first since the 1993 season, which was the team’s last Stanley Cup-winning campaign.
