Brock HoltDavid Ortiz will watch from the dugout for just the second time this season when the Boston Red Sox take on the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night at Fenway Park.

Ortiz has started in 15 of 16 games for the Red Sox this season and played in all 16, having entered as a pinch-hitter in the Red Sox’s April 5 contest against the Milwaukee Brewers.

On the other end of the spectrum is third baseman Brock Holt, who will make his first start of the season after being recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday. Infielder Ryan Roberts has been designated to Pawtucket to make room for Holt.

Mike Napoli will get a break from the field Friday, replacing Ortiz as the designated hitter and batting fourth, while Mike Carp will make his first start of the season at first base and bat fifth.

A.J. Pierzynski will be back behind the plate to catch starting pitcher John Lackey, who’s hoping to rebound after a tough outing against the New York Yankees last weekend.
