A scary scene developed Friday night in New Jersey when Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson checked Devils forward Patrik Elias into the stanchion between the benches.
Elias immediately left the game and didn’t return for the second period. There is no status on his condition at this time.

As for the hit itself, there didn’t seem to be any malicious intent from Wilson, but he does need to be extra careful when hitting players in that area of the ice. Thankfully, the stanchion had some padding on it.
