BOSTON — The Red Sox’s lineup card for Saturday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers includes a few interesting twists.

David Ortiz is out of Boston’s lineup. Red Sox manager John Farrell said before the game that Ortiz has been dealing with some calf tightness but insisted the slugger’s absence from Saturday’s lineup is actually a “planned down day.” The Red Sox played a day game Friday after a night game Thursday — with travel from Baltimore to Boston in-between — so Farrell decided to rest his All-Star DH.

Mike Carp will get the nod at first base and Mike Napoli will assume the designated hitter duties in Ortiz’s absence. Grady Sizemore, who stole a base in Friday’s loss, will jump up into the leadoff spot as Daniel Nava slides down into Ortiz’s traditional No. 3 spot.

The Brewers also will be without their best hitter Saturday. Ryan Braun is out of the lineup because of a nagging thumb issue.
