Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Adrian PetersonBy this point in his career, Adrian Peterson has established himself as one of the best — if not the best — running backs in the NFL.

His skills earned him high praise from former Cleveland Browns running back and Hall of Famer Jim Brown, who told the Pioneer Press that he believes Peterson could break Emmitt Smith’s all-time rushing yards record.

“If he wants that, and he dedicates himself, and he has good fortune, that’s a great possibility,” Brown said.

Smith built his record of 18,355 yards over the course of a 15-year career. Peterson, who is currently 29 years old, has 10,115 career rushing yards.

The Minnesota Vikings running back needs 8,241 more yards to break Smith’s record. That’s a daunting number, but like Brown says, if anyone has a chance at surpassing it, it’s Peterson.

“He’s a great football player,” Brown said. “His running style and the effort he puts in is unbelievable. I have the greatest respect for him.”
