Joe Montana Dan MarinoJoe Montana will get to play at Candlestick Park one last time.

The former San Francisco 49ers great will be headlining a flag football match at his old stomping grounds during its final summer in business. Montana will have a few other Niners legends — Jerry Rice, Roger Craig, Dwight Clark, and more — by his side. The game will take place on July 12, and tickets go on sale May 10.

The friendly game will be a rematch of Super Bowl XIX, as fellow Hall of Famer Dan Marino will be the opposing quarterback. Montana’s 49ers handled Marino’s Miami Dolphins easily in the 1985 matchup, beating them 38-16.

Montana played 13 of his 15 NFL seasons at Candlestick before departing for the Kansas City Chiefs when his spot was taken by the next Hall of Fame quarterback in line, Steve Young.

Paul McCartney will also be playing at Candlestick on August 14 as part of the “Last Summer at the Stick,” which is significant because The Beatles played their final concert together there on August 29, 1966.

The 49ers’ new stadium, Levi’s Stadium, is set to open on July 11.
