Things certainly didn’t look good Thursday night when Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonathan Bernier’s upper body bent backwards over his lower body. While it could have been worse, Bernier will miss some time.

Leafs head coach Randy Carlyle revealed Friday that Bernier suffered an MCL sprain in the third period of his team’s eventual 4-3 overtime win over the Boston Bruins.

The injury will keep Bernier out of action for at least three weeks. That might not matter, though, since Toronto is on the outside looking in at one of the Eastern Conference two wild-card spots.

The Leafs now will turn to James Reimer, who stopped 10 of 11 shots after entering the game in Bernier’s place against the Bruins. Reimer is just 12-13-1 this season with a .908 save percentage and 3.36 goals against average.
