There’s a new sheriff in town on late-night TV.

Comedy Central star and “Colbert Report” host Stephen Colbert will replace David Letterman as the new host of ‘The Late Show’ on CBS in 2015.

Colbert has created some unforgettable moments during his nine-year tenure as host of the Colbert Report, delivering his uniquely satirical opinion on everything from world politics and breaking news stories to celebrity gossip and entertainment .

The often outrageous host has even made several forays into sports, and it is in this discipline that many Boston natives have their fondest memories of Colbert.

Following the horrific attacks on the Boston Marathon in April 2013, Colbert opened his show with a moving monologue about the strength and resolve of the city of Boston, riffing that a city that “withstood an 86-year losing streak” with the Boston Red Sox could not be shaken by anything.
