Reds’ Joey Votto Embraces Canadian Heritage In Recent Interview (Video)

Joey Votto embraced his Canadian heritage Tuesday when he dressed as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (also known as a Mountie) for an interview on MLB Network’s program “Intentional Talk.”

Votto surprised the show’s hosts, Chris Rose and Kevin Millar, by dressing in full Mountie regalia and doing a complete deadpan interview. His straight-faced answers and admonishments about thinking his get-up was a joke quickly reduced Rose and Millar to laughter.

The Cincinnati Reds first baseman talked about everything from Canadian beer to his horse, “Nibbles,” whom Votto said has a handler who takes care of him while he’s at the ballpark.

Though Votto couldn’t help but crack a smile after Millar and Rose aired high school footage of the All-Star, it was the hosts who spent most of the time chuckling. Votto’s performance is reminiscent of another humorous Mountie from SCTV.

To Votto’s credit, it appears his own team didn’t have a clue what his wardrobe choice was about. Check out the Reds’ confusion in the tweet below.
