Nate Solder will spend at least two more seasons with the New England Patriots.
The Patriots exercised the fifth-year option in Solder’s contract, CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora reported Wednesday. Solder signed a four-year deal with a team option for a fifth year as a rookie in 2011, when he was drafted No. 17 overall in the NFL draft. Solder will earn $7.4 million in 2015.
Solder has been a steady presence at left tackle after taking over the starting role in 2012 when his successor, Matt Light, retired. Solder has missed just one game during his three-year career. He sat out Week 16 of the 2013 season after suffering concussions in consecutive weeks.
The Patriots’ decision to exercise Solder’s option should not come as a surprise. He has All-Pro potential at the position.
