The New England Revolution rallied in stoppage time to defeat the reigning MLS champion, Sporting Kansas City 2-0, on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.
With the win, the Revs are now tied for second in the Eastern Conference, one point shy of first place.
Teal Bunbury’s stoppage-time goal, his first as a member of the Revolution, secured the win for New England. Lee Ngyuen added an insurance goal three minutes later as he converted a penalty kick. Both goals came after Kansas City’s Aurelien Collin was ejected in the 74th minute for a studs-up tackle on Diego Fagundez.
New England (3-3-2, 11 points) is now unbeaten at Gillette Stadium in its last six games dating back to Sept. 21, 2013. They held Kansas City to just one shot on goal.
The Revs return to action Saturday, May 3, when they travel to Canada to face Toronto FC at BMO Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
