ryan.reedRyan Reed returned to the Richmond International Raceway, the very place where he made his debut last season, in the NASCAR Nationwide Series’ American Diabetes Association Drive to Stop Diabetes presented by Lilly Diabetes Ford Mustang on Friday.

The rookie recorded his best finish of the season, crossing the finish line in 12th place.

“We had a really fast race car,” said Reed.  “We pitted there, and it was just an up and down night.  It felt like we were passing cars every lap.  It is a good thing when your car is fast enough to do that.  At the end of the day, I feel we had a good solid top-10 car, and we finished 12th and kept all the fenders on it.”

After a rain delay that lasted more than two hours, the race finally got underway in foggy conditions. Based on the afternoon’s qualifying session, Reed started in 20th, but he had climbed to 11th by the time the caution flew on Lap 151.

Reed visited pit road twice after that, but he managed to stay toward the front of the pack, and when the checkered flag flew, he had completed his best finish of the 2014 season.
