Florida Southern College senior Chelsea Oglevie pitched her final collegiate softball game in a 4-2 loss to Eckerd College on Saturday, but she left a winning impression on all in attendance by carrying her injured opponent around the bases.

Eckerd sophomore Kara Oberer’s knee locked after she hit a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning, preventing her from trotting home. As Oberer sobbed in pain, Oglevie and her teammates decided to help their competitor, even though it cost them the game.

“As soon as she hit first base and her team couldn’t help her anymore, she was just absolutely sobbing,” Oglevie told the Tampa Bay Times. “She literally couldn’t put one foot in front of the other. I was like, ‘There’s no way this girl isn’t gonna make it home.'”

Oglevie called Oberer’s hit “incredible” and said she undoubtedly deserved the home run, according to ESPNw.

Oberer was both taken aback and grateful for the generous encounter.

“I feel like it’s a life-changing experience to realize that people are willing to go out of their way for you,” Oberer said. “I think it shows people all over that there is still greatness in humanity. People just want to help you out either way.”
