Torey KrugThere will be a full crowd at TD Garden when the Boston Bruins face the Detroit Red Wings in Games 1 and 2 of the first-round Stanley Cup playoff series. But Bruins defenseman Torey Krug’s family won’t be a part of it.

Krug is from suburban Detroit, so his family will attend Games 3 and 4, and Game 6 if necessary, at Joe Louis Arena. They cited financial reasons for not making the trip to Boston.

“My wife did the numbers this morning,” Kyle Krug, Torey’s father, told the Detroit Free Press on Monday. “It would be about $1,200.”

The Krugs said they’ve seen their son play this season, though, including a three-game trip to Boston over Thanksgiving. They also joined a group of about 40 friends and family members at the Bruins’ April 2 game in Detroit.

The family is even giving up their allegiance to their hometown team to root for the Bruins.

“If Boston sticks to what they’ve been doing all year,” Kyle said, “they should have some good success throughout the playoffs.”

Krug has 14 goals and 26 assists in 79 games for the Bruins in his first full NHL season.
