The Boston Bruins are going to be well represented at the 2014 NHL Awards.
Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask was named one of the three finalists for the Vezina Trophy given to the league’s top goaltender. The other two finalists are Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop and Colorado Avalanche netminder Semyon Varlamov.
The announcement from the NHL comes one day after Patrice Bergeron was named as a finalist for the Selke Trophy as the league’s best defensive forward.
This is the first time Rask has been named a Vezina finalist. The Finnish netminder just finished the finest regular season of his young career. Rask appeared in a career-high 58 games, as he was one of the big reasons the Bruins were able to capture the Presidents’ Trophy as the league’s top team.
Rask posted a 36-15-6 record this season and his 2.04 goals-against average ranked fourth in the league, while his .930 save percentage was second in the league. Rask also led the league with a career-high seven shutouts.
