UConn Women Complete Perfect Season With National Title Win Over Notre Dame

UConn defeated Notre Dame 79-58 in Nashville on Tuesday night to complete a perfect 40-0 season for its ninth national title in school history, which surpasses Tennessee for the most championships in women’s college basketball history.

The victory comes just one night after UConn’s men’s basketball team beat Kentucky to win its fourth national championship in 15 years.

The Huskies jumped out to a 45-38 halftime lead then dominated in the second half by outscoring the Fighting Irish 34-20.

Breanna Stewart led UConn with 21 points and was one of five Huskies to score in double digits. Stefanie Dolson chipped in 17 points and led UConn with 16 rebounds and seven assists. Her dominance in the paint allowed the Huskies to outrebound the Fighting Irish 54-31, including a 22-9 edge on the offensive glass.

Kayla McBride led Notre Dame (37-1) with 21 points. The Fighting Irish have lost in the national title game three times in the past four years.
