A Winnipeg mother and father have been banned from their 8-year-old son’s hockey games for three years after getting into a postgame fist fight.
CBC News reported Wednesday that Hockey Winnipeg imposed the ban after the parents were involved in an altercation with the opposing team’s coaches during a youth tournament in Fargo, N.D., in February.
The mother allegedly stormed into the opposing team’s dressing room after the game and began yelling at the coaches. When they tried to remove her from the room, her husband started to go after the coaches, and that’s when punches started flying, according to Monte Miller, the executive director of Hockey Winnipeg.
The three-year suspension is the lengthiest punishment ever handed out by Hockey Winnipeg.
“Certainly new for Winnipeg, but based on the circumstances and the information that we’ve gleaned through the investigation, I felt that we needed to take a strong stance on the issue,” Hockey Winnipeg president Don McIntosh told CBC News.
The parents, who have not been named, are appealing the ban.
