The Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens didn’t let the final moments of Monday night’s Game 6 pass without a little bit of controversy.

The Habs cruised to a 4-0 win to force a Game 7 in their second-round Stanley Cup playoff series, but despite the one-sided final score, the game ended with tempers flaring.

The rough stuff really started when Montreal defenseman Andrei Markov and Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara did some stick work behind the play. Markov got his stick tied up in Chara’s legs, then appeared to spear him in the groin. That move enraged Chara, who started pushing and shoving with Markov. Before too long, Boston forwards Jarome Iginla and Milan Lucic got involved, as did Montreal defenseman Mike Weaver.

Just about everyone else on the ice gathered along the boards as more pushing and shoving ensued, and a couple of quick punches were thrown. When it was all said and done, 28 penalty minutes were handed out, including 10-minute misconduct penalties for both Iginla and Weaver. Markov was not penalized.

Bruins coach Claude Julien also accused Montreal forward David Desharnais of slew-footing Boston forward Brad Marchand.

Game 7 is set for Wednesday night in Boston.
