Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics made their first change of the offseason when they hired former Golden State Warriors assistant Darren Erman to head their NBA scouting department. But Stevens does not anticipate Erman’s addition to be the first move in a major shakeup on the bench and in the front office.
Speaking with reporters in Chicago, where he was evaluating prospects for the 2014 NBA draft combine, Stevens said he expected his entire coaching staff to return next season. That should be music to the ears of Celtics players, who spoke highly of the assistant coaches throughout the season, especially veteran assistant Ron Adams, who revamped Avery Bradley’s jump shot. Bradley shot 39 percent on 3-point attempts, 42 percent from mid-range and 45 percent on threes “above the break.”
Stevens’ staff this season consisted of Adams, Jamie Young, Micah Shrewsberry, Jay Larranaga and Walter McCarty.
Despite the Celtics’ 25-57 record, the coaching staff remains highly regarded around the league. If any member decides to go elsewhere, Stevens told reports, he would not stand in their way.
