When his team needed him most, David Ortiz delivered once again.
The clutch slugger helped the Boston Red Sox end a 10-game losing streak by launching a three-run homer in the fifth inning against the Atlanta Braves on Monday to tie the game at 6-6. The Sox went on to win 8-6, snapping the historic skid.
Speaking of historic, the rest of this week’s homers include record-setting performances from Houston Astros rookie George Springer and Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion.
Springer hit seven homers over a seven-game span, the first rookie to do so since 1937, while Encarnacion has launched 16 dingers in the month of May, tying him with New York Yankees legend Mickey Mantle for the most in American League history.
