Canadiens Tweet ‘Stay Classy’ After Testy Game 6 Win Over Bruins

The Boston Bruins-Montreal Canadiens rivalry might be spilling into at least one of the team-run Twitter accounts.

The Canadiens evened the second-round Stanley Cup playoffs series with a convincing 4-0 win over the Bruins on Monday night, so there now will be a Game 7 on Wednesday night in Boston. The one-sided win didn’t come without a little bit of controversy, though.

The teams got tangled up in a nasty scrum in the final minute of the game, a scuffle that started after Montreal defenseman Andrei Markov appeared to spear Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara in the groin. That set off a little bit of a brouhaha, with some rough stuff setting the stage for what should be an epic Game 7 showdown.

At about the same time, the Canadiens’ Twitter account fired off this tweet.

What that’s a reference to isn’t exactly known. It could be a shot at the Bruins, implying that they should have taken the loss with class instead of escalating the little brawl at the end of the game. Or maybe it’s just an untimely, outdated and overused “Anchorman” reference. Or perhaps it’s a plea from the team to its own fans, who littered the ice with garbage after the scrap was coming to an end.

Whatever the case, the tweet adds another interesting layer to a rivalry that has been heated up since the puck dropped in Game 1.
