To say Cleveland Browns fans are excited for Johnny Manziel to don the orange and brown next season would be a great understatement.
Team president Alec Scheiner told ESPN’s Darren Rovell on Friday that the Browns have sold more than 2,000 season tickets in the time since Manziel was selected with the No. 22 overall pick in the NFL draft. And according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer, 1,000 of those new customers and renewals came within an hour of the conclusion of the first round.
“We know right now that every one of our games is going to be sold out for next season,” Scheiner said.
While fans are clamoring for tickets and lining up for Johnny Football’s No. 2 jersey, head coach Mike Pettine made it clear he won’t be giving the starting job to the most popular man in Cleveland today.
“I don’t think you can hand jobs to people when they come in,” Pettine said. “It’s a situation where despite what’s around him and what’s following him — and there will be pressure to play him — we’re in the business of evaluating the best quarterback for the Cleveland Browns to win football games, and that’s who is going to play, whether that’s Brian Hoyer or Johnny Manziel.”
Browns’ season-ticket prices range from $190 to $2,900 at FirstEnergy Stadium, and despite the increased demand, Scheiner said the team decided not to raise ticket prices.
