San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made his first public comments in his hometown of Turlock, Calif., on Friday after being named in an incident in Miami last month.
Kaepernick, along with teammate Quinton Patton and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Ricardo Lockette, were named in a Miami police report in which a woman said she woke up in a hospital with no knowledge of how she got there but knew she had been with the three NFL players the previous night. None of them were accused of a crime, and Miami police have said there is no evidence of a crime.
“It’s been put out that I did something wrong,” Kaepernick said, as reported by the Modesto Bee. “Even though it’s a bad circumstance, a bad situation, I feel like ultimately I’ve been blessed because it’s changed my way of thinking. It’s made me stronger. It’s made me look at things differently.”
Kaepernick also said he’s happy that people have been staying behind him. His coach, Jim Harbaugh, was one of those people.
“At some point, there needs to be a resolution to this, this kind of scenario,” Harbaugh said, as reported by CSN Bay Area. “I mean, the only victim in Colin’s case is Colin’s reputation.
“I’ve seen one side reported, heard the other side, and feel very good that there will be a good resolution. Hopefully, a just one, too, because you hate to see a man’s reputation be the victim.”
Miami police have not released anything on the case other than the incident report.
