Local officials want the “caxirola” to provide the definitive sound of the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, but one Belgian company is looking to crash the party.
The “diabolica,” is a small air-horn which is akin to a telescope that makes the sound of a mini-trumpet. It can break down into three pieces, making it easy for fans to smuggle it into stadiums.
The Belgium-based manufacturer plans to make them in a variety of colors, including those of the nations competing in the World Cup.

The diabolica will be hard-pressed to take the caxirola’s place in the hearts and minds of soccer fans in the Brazil, as it has backing and promotion from the Brazilian Ministry of Sport.

It’s unlikely that either noisemaker will affect the viewing experience as much as the vuvuzela did at the 2010 World Cup. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing.
