We were very close to seeing a playoff goalie fight at the end of the second period in Friday night’s Game 6 of the Western Conference final, but cooler heads prevailed.
Jonathan Quick was skating off the ice in a bad mood after being knocked to the ice by Blackhawks winger Andrew Shaw on the final play of the period when he bumped heads with Chicago netminder Corey Crawford. The two goalies engaged in a little trash talk, but the referee wasn’t willing to let them drop their gloves for a rare goalie fight. Crawford looked like he was willing to fight as he shook his glove toward the end of the incident.
The Blackhawks went into the intermission with a 2-1 lead. A Chicago victory would send the series back to the United Center for a decisive Game 7.
