Interference Call On Shane Victorino Baffles John Farrell (Video)

In the eighth inning of the Boston Red Sox’s game against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night, outfielder Shane Victorino hit a dribbler up the first base line off Rick Porcello.

The ball crossed the base path, and Victorino, with nowhere to go, ran over the ball without touching it and was immediately called out by umpire Clint Fagan. Victorino and manager John Farrell argued the call before conceding defeat and retreating to the dugout, disappointed.

Perhaps a one-out single could have started a rally in the Sox’s 6-1 loss, or perhaps not, but the call was confusing nonetheless.

Check out Tom Caron and Dennis Eckersley’s analysis, along with a word from Farrell, in the video above.
