While the NBA is busy trying to strip Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling of his stake in the team, another NBA owner is speaking out about prejudices.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban made a few comments Wednesday at a conference in Nashville, Tenn., and aligned himself in a way with the embattled Sterling, who was heard making racist remarks on tape.
“I know I’m prejudiced, and I know I’m bigoted in a lot of different ways,” Cuban said in an interview shown at the annual GrowCo convention in Nashville, Tenn., hosted by Inc. magazine.
“If I see a black kid in a hoodie on my side of the street, I’ll move to the other side of the street. If I see a white guy with a shaved head and tattoos (on the side he now is on), I’ll move back to the other side of the street. None of us have pure thoughts; we all live in glass houses.
“I know that I’m not perfect,” Cuban added. “While we all have our prejudices and bigotries, we have to learn that it’s an issue that we have to control, that it’s part of my responsibility as an entrepreneur to try to solve it, not just to kick the problem down the road.”
Cuban was busy on Twitter on Thursday clarifying his comments, saying he does not condone racism but was suggesting that everyone has flaws and internal prejudices.

The NBA banned Sterling for life for his comments, and the league is in the process of trying to strip his ownership. When Cuban was asked about voting on Sterling’s ouster, the Mavericks owner said he knows how he will vote, but he isn’t ready to comment on it.
