Mike EvansNEW YORK — Mike Evans is a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers now, but he’s still sticking up for his former Texas A&M teammate, Johnny Manziel.

Evans said Thursday night at Radio City Music Hall after being selected No. 7 overall in the 2014 NFL draft that Manziel should have been the No. 1 pick. The Texans chose South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney instead, and Manziel fell to No. 22 overall, when the Cleveland Browns traded up to select him.

ESPN and NFL Network cameras continuously showed Manziel waiting in the green room with his phone, waiting to be picked. Evans said he expected Manziel to be selected by the end of the night, and he was.
