The New England Patriots might have found the heir to Tom Brady’s throne with their second-round draft pick.
The Patriots selected Jimmy Garoppolo, a quarterback out of Eastern Illinois, with the 62nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft Friday night. The 6-foot-2, 226-pound quarterback is one of just two players in Football Championship Subdivision history to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season.
Garoppolo, 22, was the second quarterback taken Friday. Derek Carr of Fresno State went to the Oakland Raiders with the fourth pick in the second round.
