The Boston Red Sox were dealt their eighth straight loss by the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night, but it was still a much better showing than the last few games.
The 1-0 loss for once wasn’t due to starting pitching — John Lackey pitched seven innings of shutout ball — but rather the offense’s inability to cash in on a strong Rays pitching staff.
Ultimately, Sox reliever Burke Badenhop gave up a walk-off double to Cole Figueroa that Badenhop called a “grenade that (blew) up in right-center.”
